Data Annotator Intern

The accurate reporting of our members’ device activity is at the very center of our service delivery. Covenant Eyes’ core product leverages Machine Learning to analyze images and flag pornographic or highly sensitive content, which is then reported to an accountability partner. To achieve this, we rely on a skilled team composed of Data Scientists, Developers, and Data Annotators.

The Data Annotator Intern at Covenant Eyes plays a crucial role in helping us build cutting-edge AI and machine learning models. The Data Annotator Intern will gain hands-on experience in annotating and labeling various types of data, working closely with our expert data science team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to learn about the development and assessment of AI models, while contributing to exciting projects that have real-world impact.

Successful completion of this internship may lead to consideration for full-time employment opportunities, such as a Data Annotator Level I, based on individual performance and business needs. This internship does not guarantee an offer of full-time employment. (Please note - successful completion of a Data Annotator Internship is a requirement to be considered for a full-time Data Annotator I position).

• Work and communicate about work with the highest ethics and discretion, recognizing that user privacy is of highest priority.
• Communicate regularly and openly with the Data Science Development Manager and Data Annotation Team Lead about mental/emotional state so that proactive support can be given as needed.
• Annotate and label large datasets with relevant tags, descriptions, or categories in accordance with project requirements.
• Review and validate annotated data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Identify and report any inconsistencies or errors in the data.
• Collaborate with data scientists and other data annotation specialists to understand project requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, data scientists, and quality assurance analysts to improve datasets and models.
• Participate in quality control processes to ensure high-quality annotations.
• Work efficiently to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality annotated data.
• Communicate with clarity and excellence in both written and verbal communication. Excellent communication in this context requires professional, grammatically correct writing and clear, articulate speech. It also requires proficient typing.

• Understands the dangers of pornography and the ability of transparent relationships to help in the fight against it.
• Has maintained strict confidentiality and adherence to ethical guidelines in previous roles when handling sensitive, personal, or explicit media, demonstrating a commitment to data privacy and professional conduct.
• Demonstrated resilience and the ability to maintain emotional detachment when working with challenging or sensitive content, ensuring consistent objectivity and quality of work.
• Consistently demonstrates professionalism and respect for diverse viewpoints in all interactions and collaborations.
• Proven track record of being highly organized and detail-oriented, with excellent time management skills to consistently meet deadlines.
• Successfully applies analytical and critical thinking skills to solve problems and make informed decisions in a professional work setting.  
• Familiarity of data quality and accuracy principles.
• Excellent collaboration and communication, both written and verbal, skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Office suites or similar software programs.
• The majority of your time will be spent at a desk using a phone, computer and monitor, and general office equipment. You may be required to reach with hands and arms; sit; stand; talk and hear; use your hands to finger, handle, or feel.
